Matoso Youth kicks off Ligi Ndogo Initiative tourney on a positive note

Matoso youth beat Lidha FC 1-0 as the annual Migori County Ligi Ndogo initiative kicked off at the Matoso stadium, Nyatike yesterday.


In other game splayed,Akado overcame Cameroon 2-1 during the games, which bring together players under seventeen in Nyatike district.
The tournament, which is being organized by the local Ligi Ndogi initiative, as over ten teams taking part in them among them Aeko FC, Simba FC, Lidha FC, Akodo FC, Nyangere FC, Gor Gor FC, Lisori FC and Matoso Youngsters FC.
Today, Matoso Youngsters FC will be battling it out with Akodo FC at the same grounds before Lisori and Simba also squaring it out at the same tournament.
According to the tournament organizer Mr. Maurice Ogur, the main aim of the tournament is to promote academic excellence and fight other vices through sports in the shores of Lake Victoria.
“We are aiming at developing sports talents and giving the youths exposure, fighting AIDS spread as well as early pregnancy and marriages which are common in the area” he said adding that so far, the talents which have been witnessed in the area were impressive.
The tournament, which kicked started in 1998 where the under 13 boys took part, has since risen to be an annual competition where young boys from all over the beaches take part in.
The winners of the tournament will be awarded with a trophy and uniform.
