Hundred of Nyatike district residents to benefit from a free medical camp

Hundreds of residents of Nyatike constituency in Migori County will over the next one week benefit from free medical services from a group of American doctors who are currently in the area.
The doctors, who are in the country under a program supported by Hope Ministries, an American Non Governmental Organization, NGO involved in health programs, will visit a number of schools during the period to meet the locals and offer their services.
Speaking yesterday during the kickoff of the program in Pengle center, Mr. Maurice Ogur, the coordinator of the Got Kachola Development Group, a community Based organization that has coordinated the visit said they had been forced to make the move to help thousands in the area who could not access health services.
“Most of these people can’t afford to pay what is paid in the hospitals” he said adding that over two hundred people had benefited from the program on the first day alone.
He also asked the government to construct more hospitals especially in the rural area saying some of the people who came to the camp said even though they could pay for the hospital services, the distance from their homes was too much making the to opt to stay at home.
And speaking at the opening ceremony, Nyatike Public Health officer Mr Samuel Oketch urged the locals to take advantage of the visit and ensure that they are able to get free services as well as advices on their health.
“Tell your relatives and friends to seize this opportunity” he said adding that the government was willing to work with other r bodies to ensure that Kenyan were able to have easy access to medical services.
